President Elect application

I want to share my application with all of the subscribers of this blog. If you've ever been a candidate for an FAR office, then you know how much thought goes in to completing the application for office. Normally, only a few people actually see the application or for that matter even care about the candidates and their thoughtful responses to the questions. However, since I'm blogging, I'm hoping that there may be more interest in the process. The application contains the normal qualifying questions about leadership positions, attendance at FAR meetings and community involvement. There are three questions requiring narrative responses that tend to be the most revealing about the candidates concerns, goals and objectives. Please refer to the above link to my application; I would love to hear your comments.

The next step in the process is attending "Meet the Candidate" district events and getting to know the current and upcoming leaders in the local associations. This is a chance for candidates to give a speech and answer questions. This Friday, we begin in District 13 with a visit to Venice for lunch, hosted by DVP Tom Sponaugle. The next stop is 90 miles south in Naples at the District 5 dinner event hosted by DVP Spencer Haynes. Next, we visit with District 11 for lunch on Monday, hosted by DVP Dorine L. Longhini. Then we move up A1A to District 3 for a late afternoon event hosted by DVP Maria Wells.

I'll also be attending an NAR Strategy meeting on Thursday, an LT meeting on Tuesday and then finishing this trip with a visit with the AE's on Tuesday evening. I'll try to blog while I'm on the road; maybe even a few blogs with photos via my smartphone. It'll be fun.

I came to know Bob Hudgens shortly after I joined the Fort Walton Beach Board of Realtors; yes a “Board” , now the Emerald Coast association of REALTORS, back in 1985. It was good to see such a young man in real estate. I later met Bob while working on a deal with his brokerage.

I came to know him better when we served on the MLS committee and in 1992 answered an ad for a Sales Manage at his firm. I was brought on board and worked with the Hudgens family for several years. During that time, Bob developed as a manager and leader both in the family business and the Emerald Coast Association of REALTORS. He took on ever increasing tasks and responsibilities progressing up the leadership ladder to FAR Treasurer and we are the better for his success.

Reading the application and knowing the man, it’s apparent that a trait that Bob overlooked is modesty. True he has listed his accomplishments, but the real efforts underlying everything is his ability to work with others while staying focused; carefully considering all aspects of the problem, working through a deliberative process, using sound judgments to reach well reasoned decisions is hard to put on paper.

He has a wonderful family, I know his parents Bob and Edna Hudgens. His wife and mine were both teachers and I’ve watched his children grow.

100% Thanks, Charles J.”Chuck”Licari, CRB

Bob - I remember so vididly that you were a leader when we met in the 1970's in high school, and you've only improved your dedication to service and become even more dynamic since then. It's been a privilege to know you and to serve with you at the local level. Our Association has benefited tremendously from your leadership, dedication, integrity, and vision, and it makes perfect sense that you would offer to serve FAR with the same enthusiasm. Obviously, you have a lot of support from our area because we all know you so well, but I'm also confident that anyone with an iota of ability to read character in a man will find it in spades at their first meeting with you. Best wishes on a successful campaign. You'll make a great FAR President-Elect and President. Mary Anne Windes, CCIM, CRB, CRS, GRI, RRS, e-PRO
